The Guardians of the Galaxy uses sound design in a number of ways. they use iconic songs from the 70's and 80's to add humor to a scene. this breaks up the tension and adds more depth to a scene and situation. it also helps with defining peter quills character, as it is a representation of his past. sound is also used to give more definition to fights as well.
they tighten the sound for the spacecraft, weapons, and hits to make a fight scene more epic. it allows use to feel every hit as an audience. it makes the hits have physical weight. the spacecraft and weapon sounds make everything seem more realistic to the universe. it gives the whole world the atmosphere. filler like the sound of the city and underground add more life to the scene. it makes the characters and scenes look natural and normal.

I would give up Cable TV because i already barely use the TV. in this day and age i simply stream my videos either on my phone or computer or directly to the tv. while tv in the past was one of the best ways to pass the time and get information, it has slowly been turned obsolete. you can pull most tv shows up on Netflicts or Hulu.
the technology that has influenced our modern age the most is the CPU. the CPU or "central processing unit" perform all the logic and arithmetic operations for a computer. the cpu we know of today first arrived in 1964 after the invention of the transistor. this allowed us to shrink computers down to a manageable size. because of this we are now able to produce portable devices and execute programs faster and more reliably.
