Project Proposal
My honors project will be to make 3 t-shirt designs for a lacrosse team who is participating in a 5k run. The shirts will be for team wolverine, who is running to support ALS. the shirt must include a brief saying and a logo. the logo must include a wolverine and either a lacrosse stick or the ALS logo. this project will be completed in illustrator and covers graphic design. i am interested in this project because it supports my lacrosse team. it will be very cool to design a shirt that not only i will wear, but one that my team will wear. to complete this project, i will need illustrator and a computer. i will need to be able to make a simple and easily scalable drawing that utilizes all my skills and knowledge of graphic design. i plan to start the project very soon and complete it by march 31st. i will first start by tracing all the logos i have selected. i will then start placing and writing up some good slogans, placing them in different areas. i will then do final touches and send all 3 to my client. i will have to overcome needed complexity, background color, and how i will lay out each graphic. i will need to make sure to add detail while keeping the graphic easy to print, simple, and easy to understand. i have to make sure the message is clear and concise.
The evolution of the final shirt Design
Reflection
i chose to do this project because it was not only for a good cause, but to support my lacrosse team. designing this shirt helped support one of the players families and gave us something to wear for the ALS run. because of this, i had to make sure that it was a shirt that i could wear. some of the problems i had to face was the fact that in t-shirt designs, every color increases the price of the shirt, so while 1 shirt could have many colors but still be cheap for a t-shirt, when you are ordering a bunch it becomes too expensive. my biggest issue was not necessarily the logo, but the font of the slogan. finding a font that looked good and met the clients needs was very difficult. i had to go through about 6 fonts to find the right one by the time i finished the design. this project helped develop my skills in illustrator and my problem solving skills for color. i think that the final shirt looks very good and accomplished my goal. if i did this again i would have done better with what colors i would have used to help bring out the wolverine. while you can see the wolverine on the shirt, by the time it was time to print, a lot of the original color was removed. overall it was a great project and i am very proud of the end result of my client project.
